      <image:title>Family - The first homemade fish pen</image:title>
<image:caption>In the early 80s my father and his two brothers, placed the first homemade fish pen at the end of the fjord. With the help of a small rowboat and a small boathouse for the feed, they did everything by hand. The three brothers watched their little project closely and carefully, learned from nature and the fish, and understood better and better how to make sure the fish were healthy and grew strong</image:caption>

      <image:title>Family - From generation to generation</image:title>
<image:caption>As soon as they were old enough, the children of the Wenberg and Øksheim families joined the farms. Eventually, the legacy was passed on to the next generation. Over the decades we have created a small but solid family business known as ‘Nordic Blu’. And today, we number over 25 employees. We believe in building strong communities, supporting local organizations and businesses so that people can live and make a living around the fjord for many generations to come.</image:caption>

<image:title>Nature - Fresh water from the mountains and glaciers</image:title>
<image:caption>Long before human pollution and litter, the glaciers were forged. Great masses of frozen, clean water lie heavily over the mountains surrounding Skjerstadfjorden. Due to their dark blue tones, the glacier has been named Blåmannsisen, or the Blue Mans Ice. Heavy rainfalls during winters, melting waters and hundreds of rivers and streams continuously feed the fjord with new freshwater. Our salmon grows in their natural habitat. Right next to our farms, one of the largest rivers come alive with wild salmon. Each year, thousands of wild salmon travel from the sea up the river to spawn. Here, we know that both our salmon and wild salmon thrive and are healthy.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Nature - We love our fjord! ♡</image:title>
<image:caption>We love the fjord, the fish and nature. Because of this, we are committed to monitor and protect the sea conditions. We need to take care of ecosystems in the fjord and seabed and ensure that our activities do not affect the environment negatively. That is why we collaborate with marine biologists who continuously monitor and conduct thorough investigations of the fjord systems and marine life. This is in addition to our technology that tell us at all times about the state of the water, oxygen level, salt content and temperature.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Fish - Value chain</image:title>
<image:caption>If you travel to the innermost part of the fjord, you’ll find the ova hatching. When they are ready, we transport the small fish to the freshwater side of the fjord at Breivika. Here, they are kept in freshwater tanks on land until they are between 4 and 12 months, over 60 grams and ready to enter the farm sites in the fjord. For 12-18 months they swim and eat until they weigh more or less 13 pounds and are ready for harvesting. It is a time-consuming but necessary process to ensure the highest quality.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Fish - Perfect growing conditions</image:title>
<image:caption>Ice-cold freshwater from the mountains and glaciers surrounding the fjord creates the perfect growing conditions for the fish. The huge amounts of freshwater wards off salmon lice. Which in turn means that we usually do not need debugging agents at our facilities. That is great for the fjord, the fish and you. The fish also need plenty of room to unfold, and we are committed to letting them live stress-free lives from smolt to adulthood. The strong tidal currents and extra space means that the fish are constantly moving, thriving and getting that special texture in the meat.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sustainability - Production intensity</image:title>
<image:caption>High-intensity production is a problem in the salmon industry. The seabed and ecosystems can get affected by feces and leftover feed. In Skjerstadfjorden, we are the only farmers so the total production intensity in the fjord is very low. By using advanced technology, we can ensure that we farm with the right amount of feed. We continuously monitor the fjord and the nearby rivers to make sure that the water and seabed are healthy and clean.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sustainability - No chemicals</image:title>
<image:caption>Our salmon get a feed that is nutritional and free of chemicals, antibiotics and hormones. They live in nets free from antifouling containing copper, and because of high amounts of cold fresh water in Skjerstadfjorden, we don’t need pesticides. In our special feed, we only use organic minerals to improve the salmon’s mineral uptake. In this way, the salmon gets a robust immune system and a more robust salmon is more resistant to disease. The result is a healthy and natural salmon, free of chemicals, and a clean and living fjord.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sustainability - Escaping fish</image:title>
<image:caption>Fish escaping and mixing with the wild salmon stock is one of the main issues with farming in open net pens. We are dedicated to reaching the zero vision for escapes. All of our processes and routines at the localities are designed to prevent and to avoid escapes. Even though we have a full-range set of cameras underwater, we frequently use divers to control the net pens to ensure zero escapes. Our dedication has led to zero escape incidents in the past 12 months. And for at least ten years there have been no major escape events in Skjerstadfjorden.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Seaweed - Kelp Production</image:title>
<image:caption>Carbon Sequestration: Kelp, a fast-growing seaweed, absorbs carbon dioxide during photosynthesis. Large-scale kelp farming has the potential to sequester significant amounts of carbon, aiding in the fight against climate change. Industrial kelp forests are up to 10 times more effective at capturing carbon than rainforests. Biodiversity: Kelp forests provide crucial habitats for diverse marine species, promoting biodiversity. Sustainable harvesting practices ensure these ecosystems remain vibrant and productive. Resource Efficiency: Kelp does not require freshwater, fertilizers, or pesticides to grow. This makes it a low-impact crop compared to traditional agriculture, allowing sustainable production without depleting land or freshwater resources.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Seaweed - Future Outlook</image:title>
<image:caption>The future of industrial kelp production is bright, driven by several key factors: Rising Demand: With increasing awareness of sustainable food sources, demand for kelp is expected to grow across various industries, including food, dietary supplements, bioplastics, biofuels, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Technological Advancements: Innovations in aquaculture, such as improved cultivation techniques and automated harvesting, are enhancing efficiency and scalability. These advancements are already underway and will enable a tenfold increase in production capacity within a short timeframe. Climate Change Mitigation: Kelp farming is gaining recognition for its role in carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation. This has the potential to attract greater support from governments and environmental organizations worldwide.</image:caption>
